It's a question that makes us smile because it comes from a real care. And the fabric, trust me, makes the difference.
The first point: real freshness, not just perceived
When we talk about summer fabrics for kennels and accessories, freshness is not an abstract concept: it is a measurable technical characteristic , made up of breathability, heat dispersion capacity and sensation to the touch.
A good summer fabric should prevent heat build-up under the dog's body and allow air to circulate naturally.
Materials such as technical cotton with a honeycomb structure , or natural blends treated with antibacterial yarns , are the smartest choices. Unlike raw cottons, these fabrics have an extra edge: not only are they fresh, but they are also resistant to wear and tear and easy to maintain over time.
Fabrics that breathe… but also that don’t fray
In spring and summer, the kennel is often moved outdoors: terraces, balconies, gardens. The surface is exposed to direct light, dust, evening humidity.
For this reason, it is essential that the chosen fabric is resistant to UV rays , that it does not fade easily , and that it maintains its shape even after numerous washes .

Washability, yes. But real.
For us, washable does not mean “you can put it in the washing machine”. It means that the fabric does not wrinkle, does not lose consistency, does not ruin over time .
In practice, it must be ready to endure daily adventures: a wet paw, sudden mud, hair that gets stuck. The best summer fabrics are the water-repellent soft-touch ones, or the high-density cottons that combine naturalness and durability.
And drying speed? It’s crucial. Especially if the kennel is washed often or if it’s left outside: no one wants a damp surface for hours.
Watch out for the fibres: let's avoid stuck hair
There are fibers that hold everything. Hair, dust, heat.
A good summer fabric must have a tight but not rigid weave , which does not capture every single particle of hair. We avoid velvets, heavy cloths, fake summer wools (which seem light, but are occlusive).
Better to choose smooth and slightly embossed fabrics, easy to dust and gentle on the skin.
The right color does more than you think
A light fabric tends to get dirty faster. A dark one absorbs too much heat.
We always choose medium, balanced palettes, with shades of sand, ecru, light gray, dove gray or sage green. Not only do they look good at home, but they are functional for the season : they reflect light, do not yellow over time, and can be easily matched with any environment.
In contact with the skin: safety first
The dog lies down, breathes, licks, sleeps. Sometimes it also digs with its paws, rolls over, rubs itself. The fabric of the kennel is one of the most intimate and used surfaces every day .
